I have taught piano for over ten years and love my job. My students range from professional musicians to beginners of all ages. My curriculum is based on the Berklee College of Music and University of North Texas programs. I also incorporate the use of method books, dvd’s, cd’s, and classical repertoire into my teachings. Some of the topics studied are composition, ear training, sight reading, music history, chart writing, technique, rhythm, theory, and jazz improvisation.

One of my main objectives in teaching is to help my students discover how to be critical of themselves. This skill leads to personal growth in school, work, and life. I help my students with this process by showing them how to practice, what to practice, and how to correct themselves. Practicing properly is hard work and requires a predetermined plan. Parents of my young students are instrumental in the early stages of the practicing process. Eventually my students develop a daily practice routine and begin to recognize their musical growth.

Like learning a different language, jazz improvisation takes time to acquire. In order to "speak" this language one must immerse themselves in the culture. Listening to both recorded and live jazz is the most important facet in understanding the essence of the style.

The art of jazz improvisation has eluded many classical musicians due to the style being omitted from traditional music programs. Many of my students are classically trained pianists; however, I also teach brass, woodwind, and vocal performers. My teachings can be applied to any instrumentalist or vocalist who is interested in learning the art of improvisation. Once a system is learned for improvising it can be applied to various styles such as: pop, rock, r&b, funk, bossanova, country, etc..
